Weird 9V issue with StingRay - Amazon batteries don't work?

I will only use Duracell in MM
Don't trust any other brands.
Learned the hard way.

IIRC MM specifically stated in the pamphlet which came with my 20th anniversary stingray that Duracell was the recommended brand as it was always within standard spec/size and other brands might crack the batt compartment. Maybe it met an ISO 5000 parameter.

It's the only 9V I use in the house for the actives, smoke alarms, multimeters, tasers etc...

I wet my lower lip and use that instead. It doesn't sting as much. Truly an electrifying experience.

I mean...no pain, no high-gain preamp signal I suppose?

I'm just going to re-post this important information directly from EBMM, in light of how many people are using :

1) Lithium batteries (danger of overvoltage, that can damage the preamp)

2) rechargeable batteries (undervoltage effectively means the preamp is never able to operate optimally)

I dispute that. As I posted above, rechargeables work fine. Used them for years. No difference in sound/performance to standard 9v batteries.

The funk master roadworn sizzler 9v battery is the elite. V rare, only available in certain stores in Lithuania.

Try a little bit of cardboard at the butt end, may need a little more 'length'. I've had to do this in my EBMM Sterling with some batteries.

I had something like this with a late '80s Stringray sent to me by a mate to fix. Initial thought was the battery contacts being overly pressed. Wasn't that, so OpAmp issue? No! It was dry joints on the legs of the volume pot to the PCB/ white wire to pickup.

That’s cool, I’ve been using rechargeable AAs in my IEM racks and bass wireless gear for years. In fact, my recent set of rechargeable AAs is going on 3 years old.

The 9V rechargeables has been a little more effort. I went back to alkaline 9Vs as I change them every 3-4 months and take the used ones to a local battery store. I’ll admit, I’m a little too lazy to treat my bass 9Vs as you do. More of us should, though.

I wouldn't say I'm coming 100% from environmental angle (although it's important to me).
Rechargeables are more of a habit from years of working as a photographer. More cost effective and can be topped up on the go. Plus not forgetting to buy extras in advance.
