weird Ibanez

I'm a dyed in the wool Fender guy but last week I stopped by Music Go Round and saw this strange bass. This thing was so ugly that I gave it a closer look. I took it off the wayy and started playing it.
It felt great. Light, solid feeling and very comfortable to sit and play. Ibanez Ergodyne EDA900.
I later found out it has a odd plastic body and neck. It was strange that I found myself likeing it so much considering my background as a Fender user.
Have many folks seen this bass before?
Any owners out there?

I remember seeing the orange ones & I always thought that they looked like the old Cingular man/logo. I don't remember the tone, but I guess everyone who bought one - kept it. They don't seem to very common...

Got mine in a pawn shop about a year ago. Strangest sounding bass EVER. The body is Luthite - some composite material. I think neck is maple, with same satin paint as body.

There is one on my craigslist for darn cheap. Too ugly for me though.

These are an aquired taste i picked this one up for $70.00 on craigslist and it needed a shim at the heal of the neck. I adjusted the T-rod and string height and now it is playable. The upper horn was broken an inch up from the neck pocket so the stap button was placed low near the neck joint. The battery cover is missing but that can be replaced soon-or taped in. Ha I might turn it for a small profit soon. We will see.

Yea i know my young son likes to throw water. Hence the water marks on the wall. It's a rented apartment so they will paint it soon.

This was my "must have bass" circa 2001/2002. I loved them, but never could afford one back then. Now I'm considering picking one up, as they've become very affordable. Some call them ugly. I call them eye-catching. They're based off an older Ibanez design , can't recall the model. I heard once that Luthite is essentially sawdust and glue molded into the body shape. Because of that they dent and ding very easily. I'm pretty sure Ibanez has abandoned the material, but other manufacturers still use similar materials. Flaxwood guitars are kind of the same idea, and those sound pretty good.

I love Ibanez SR basses, I own several. But I don't know about this, it looks like something an alien would play, maybe in that crazy bar in Star Wars. It certainly is different.
