Is this a decent bass?

I know hwo you guys probably hate this question, and it is quite noobly of me.

However, I really don't know any other way to go about it.

I have cerebral palsy, so my hands aren't amazingly dextrous, although I am hoping with enoughing trianing and practice that I could turn it into something. I have limited experience with guitar, and I want to try out bass to see if I would be better. I also play trombone, and a bit of piano.

I like alternative rock, and stuff of the like. Some of my bass influences are Jeff Ament (Pearl Jam), Jared Followill (Kings of Leon), and Jaun Alderate (The Mars Volta).

It's OK... id go with the famed SX (Essex) from Rondo.

Props to you for looking into playing bass.

Honestly, I would say that that is NOT a decent bass. I played a friend of mines' and it actually HURT to play, and was very difficult to set up.

I wouldn't recommend spending less than about $130 on a bass, and in that range, I recommend looking at SX guitars from www.rondomusic.com

You can get something much more solid in the same price range.

Would that be an acceptable amp to purchaase with it?

I would obviously like that full bass sound, which 15W won't provide. However, with my limited funds I might as well order from the same place if you guys would recomend it

I would still be happy to hear any other ideas too.

I've owned both a Rogue and an SX bass, and right now the Rogue is sitting in a corner, gathering dust because its neck is severely bowed and the truss rod is either maxed out or stuck. Sounded like mud when I was stuck using it, the knobs are worthless, and felt super-cheap. Not fun.

My SX has a perfectly straight neck, a good range of tones that sound great (even on a crappy amp), and it looks and feels way more expensive than it was.

Seriously, don't buy the Rogue if you can avoid it. It's cost way more in frustration than it's saved in dollars.

NO that is not an acceptable bass, id just grab a crate practice amp and a MIM Fender. SX are alright but, if you plan to play it at all get something decent not a rogue.

I think Baracuda and Rogue are producing the same basses with slightly different features and I started on a Barracuda a decade ago. It was the crappiest instrument I've ever played (and I've played through some cheap trombones...).

The fret ends were sharp, the action was a mile-high, it was heavy and it sounded lifeless and dull. It was basically a dog who had severe construction and functionnal issues.

I'd recommend a short scale bass as a starter: it'll be easier on the hands/fingers and be more playable. Rondo has 3/4 scale basses in stcok also.

PS: Get a semi-nice bass and the cheapest amp you can find. Buy used if possible. 15 watts is enough for practicing on a 4 stringer. You really don't want to spend money ona combo when strapped for cash. It should be spent on more usable things, like decent headphones, a good strap and strings.
