And I thought it was just me. I see the D800 & D800+ flying out the door. But, I do admit I was in on that.
Sold my D800 to offset the purchase of a WD800. Being shipped now. Arrival should be Dec 21st......in time for Dec 29th gig.

I just let a pristine 400 non plus go and ordered a WD800 on spec. I have been a huge Walkabout fan for years and am pretty excited that this new amp will be what many of us have been hoping for. Namely a higher powered Walkabout. I have no plans to sell my Subway 800 at the moment as it's an amazing little amp in its own right but has more of a Carbine flavour then Walkabout.

If I needed an amp, I would absolutely buy some flavor of Mesa Subway 800.

But... I don't gig right now and the amp I have is working very well, so...

My fingers still twitch towards my wallet when I think about those used Subways in the classifieds, though.

I use a D-800 and plan on getting the Subway pre and the WD800:

D-800 for clean rig gigs
WD-800 for my church gig in a big room
Pre for my band that I use IEM with

I think people's misconception of the WD-800 is that it's "better" than the D-800, but it's simply different.

Hard to believe that there are 4 Subway heads and 1 pre pedal in the TB classifieds all on page 1.
The new WD 800 must be amazing or, bass players are a fickle bunch.

It would be hard to believe that the answer is both since that new amp has only been out for about 5 minutes and I don't think that many people have tried it.

And I thought guitar players were bad...

I for one went happily from a flagship product The V12 Titan a feature rich insanely powerful front end and toneful output into the D800.
A decidedly different amp simpler yet amazingly good!
Was for 3 years thrilled with the D800 (best rig I had ever owned)
I am still in love with the amp!
Got the WD800 and it brings stuff that I could live without, the D800 is in no way a slouch. That said, the tube pre, the para EQ, the onboard HPF, the passive mid, and the damping control are compelling features that I can use.

The D800 is going for financial reasons, and is too much amp as a backup to a head as reliable as Mesa's have proven to be over the decades.

So D800 should move to other hands in my case, rather than languish unused.
There's still 2 years of warranty left, why let it expire in a closet?

I'll be sticking with my D-800 and the DI-Preamp. The 800 gives me what I need and the DI gives my Carvin backup amps some character.

Nothing "bad" about it. I like trying different stuff. I have bought and sold tons of fantastic gear. Most of what I sold I actually really liked. I had no problem with it whatsoever. But I was in the mood to try something else.

To me there is no such thing as the ONE TONE TO END ALL TONES. So I keep buying and selling.

The people selling that newer Mesa stuff are likely in the same boat. It's all the rage so they wanted to try it. They tried it. What's next?

If I kept every peice of gear I ever loved I would be sitting on bass amps around my kitchen table because there wouldn't be anywhere else to put them. Heck, right NOW I think I have too much gear. So some really nice pieces are going up for sale in early 2019. Nithing wrong with any of it. I'm just ready for whatever is next.

I'm not "fickle". I'm just curious about what else is "out there".

This isn't an issue at all to me.

I have the WA amp and just picked up a 4ohm Scout cab for it, now I have the complete combo. I tried the D800+ and concluded it wasn't my thing so I sent it back, it was nice and had everything I wanted except for that warm pillowy tone you get from the WA, so is the WA better than the D800s, no it's not, just different, can't go wrong with either one or anything Mesa for that fact, so am I gonna get a WD800, no I'm not anytime soon, I'll stick to my Mpulse 600 and WA and gig them accordingly to what is needed for the perticular room with Subway Cabs might I add!!

Don´t know what´s the problem with this, seriously. Buy, sell, trade it, do wathever you want with your gear.

I had a Hartke HA3500 for about twenty years. Never failed me. But when I travelled to the US last year (I live in Brazil) I tested and bought at the same moment a D-800+. It is the best piece of gear that I´ve ever had. It is light, powerful, have the best tone for me, and it is easy to dial in.

And for the WD800, as some folks here have already said, it was designed taking into consideration what a lot of bass players here told @agedhorse , so after the success that the D800 and the + enjoyed, wouldn´t be a surprise if a lot of people simply ditch their old gear...

Give them 3 years and you will see people hunting Subways like Diamonds. And people giving away their WD800. Its been always the same story. A couple of years back some people were giving theirs WA for cheap. Now try to find one cheap....

I think there is a level of trust among many of us with regard to Mesa in general. Then we watched @agedhorse picking our brains and coming out with great amps. I was part of the pent-up demand for the Walkabout, and when he implied that the tone of the WD-800 somewhat approximates the Walkabout was what convinced me to give it a try. I played both the D800 and D800+ hoping that they would cop some of the Walkabout tone but that wasn't what those amps were about. The WD-800 is a different beast, and delivers as promised. It's close to the Walkabout tonewise, but it's much louder and can do clean and loud, which the original could not do. I'm really happy I pulled the trigger.

So there's also gonna be a Big Bang in the classifieds too, as soon as I get around to it.

I will try to give a test to the WD-800 in terms of being close to the WA. Because i had a M-Pulse 360 which was claimed to be a bigger WA which was not for anything. I honestly have not found any SS head any close to the WA. Only the Aguilar 750 which you may need a Camel to drag around

The WD-800 isn't a replacement for the D-800/D-800+, is another distinctly different flavor of amp that may suit some players better, especially players who are in playing situations where they can use the additional features and are not as constrained by the increased size & weight.

Some of the D800/D-800+ amps being sold are back-ups where the players have more than one. Because of the transferable warranty, it gives these players better options than sitting on them and the buyers are in a better position than buying other used amps with no warranty.
