MFD pups and locking bridge, a bulletproof combo.

I have the pre-wired G&L preamp as well. I found an undrilled Tele Control plate that I will probably use. Seriously considering the removal of the pup selector switch in favor of a separate volume for each pup.

Up to you about selector switch.

I think volume selector works well with the MJ series but they are wound differently to the MFDs.
I really like the selector switch as you get a really snappy instant tone change Bridge to both to Neck so in sing changes are very possible

I am a sucker for an ASAT bass and for G&L.

I never found the neck dive too much of an issue and way overstated.
Interestingly I found the 'neck dive' less on my semi hollow compared to the solid body which I think is probably due to the #7 neck compared to the thinner #8 neck.

Also there was a guy who for personal research was looking at the placement of Pups from 12 fret to centre poles on various basses, not just G&L.

I have some of his measurements somewhere if you pm your email I can dig it out

Thanks for your offer for providing pup placements.

I think the two dimensions I would like to get out of you would be as follows:
1) Distance of gap between edge of bridge and and bridge pup. What I found in research is that this is about 1.25"
2) Distance of gap between the 2 pups. What I found in research is that this is about 1.1"

If you could confirm those #'s, that would be very cool!

Last update for the weekend

Routed slot for bridge, pups, and 3/8 round-over. I might take it up to a 1/2 round-over. Also did some wood removal for the arm cut.

Back to the bass, I was wondering what processes I was going to use to finish this off. Files, scrapers, and sanding were all things I tried. The pic shows what works best for me. Granted, it's only the top part of the horn, and into the round over, but I used sand paper. Started at 180, and worked my way to 1500. looks good to me

Out of all the various electronic harness's/preamps etc (that I use and love) - the G&L L-2000 system (pre and pu's) is for me the ultimate - the standard.

I've been thinking of ways to dress this out.

As we know G&L was later in Leo's work in comparison to developing the Pbass, Jbass, Tele, and Start. I am very fond of the earlier six string Telecaster look with the Bakelite PG. If I were to marry old Leo to newer Leo, I could possibly end up with something like this. The PG design is still in process, but you get the idea. I am intending on incorporating a PG

For PG material, I'm really liking the black Bakelite. To get me a piece of real Bakelite is a small fortune. I also know that I will be scorned if I don't go the Tort route.

Thoughts?

I know tort is often frowned upon, but if the glove fits... we'll have to see how it sits with the finish, but it could. possibly. were you planning on going gloss? personally, I think it's hard to go wrong (relatively) with black, not a fan of white, but more wood = better, IMO NO PG. that roundover in post #34 is tasty!

I luv this answer cuz it's inline with my thoughts. Mostly. I know what your are talking about when you say "more wood = better". I think that the grain is so tight and consistent that I could get away with a PG. I do kinda have my mind set...

BTW, I'll designing the PG to have no screws, magnets, or or other type fasteners of that kind. I'll use the tang off the heal end of the neck (FB) to hold the PG in place
