Personally I am not a huge PG fan though I am not against it, but if you put one on, has to be plain not tort, it would detract from the wood grain pattern which is lovely

As much as I love tort you've only got yourself to please so if you want (for example and I'm not suggesting it) a hi-vis yellow guard then go for it.

I'm not sure that a tort guard would suit the body colour but take no notice of me, colour coordination was never one of my strong points.

+1 for Wills suggestion. Black will match the darker grain details nicely but a clear Perspex pick guard will show off the wood grain with protection

For PG material, I'm really liking the black Bakelite. To get me a piece of real Bakelite is a small fortune. I also know that I will be scorned if I don't go the Tort route.

I made an ebony pickguard for my old G &L L2k, looks great but it does tend to warp a little depending on the season. Great looking project!

This is just a shot in the dark, but I'm thinkin 2 big ol hunks of Wenge.

I did find a piece of ebony for the pick gaurd. Tracking number says it will be here end of next week.

Reduced the head stock .7" thick

Was visited by an alien friend that let me take her pic

Truth be told, I look for wood on the internet, and in stores on a daily basis.
I've been able to get some really good deals in Evil Bay. These two aren't to bad, and I've purchased some really nice pieces at reasonable prices

I use to have a source for Koa in Hawaii, but it seems the local government is cracking down on the export of Koa.

I have a number of local sources, of which I use this guy a lot for my mahogany , Northern Ash, and Cherry needs >>>http://www.badgerwood.com/
and this guy for odd pieces Kettle Moraine Hardwoods, Inc., Hartford, WI. This guy has a pretty good selection of many kinds of wood, and his stock is continually turning. He's got a couple slabs I've lusting after for a bit. One of these days I'll probably pop for one or both.

For people on the web, I've pulled alot of wood from this guy Link Removed. He's where I got most of my Black Limba, and Wenge. But since he's moved down to florida, it seems like the these two have dried up. I've also pulled alot of Black Walnut from Goby. And I used to purchase alot from Gilmer, but his prices have gone up a bit in the 5 to 7 years.

One my new internet finds is [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]. I've purchased some really sweet pieces from this guy.

One thing to keep in mind though. You get get what you pay for. I'm fortunate to be in a position to afford the higher $$$ boards. I just paid some hefty cash for a piece of highly figured Bastogne Walnut. I'm drool already.

And of course, there's the Rockler's and Woodcraft's, of which from time to time I get a bit lucky and find something for a reasonable price. The quarter saw Wenge neck came from a Woodcraft store.

My friends know I have sawdust in my veins, and from time to time I get a call, Hey Scoops come on over we just cut down this big Oak tree, ya want a chunk? I have Oak, Cherry and Northern ash all drying in my basement

Last but not least, this is my source for ebony and african blackwood fingerboards. Exotic Lumber Inc. | Domestic & Exotic Hardwoods | Specialty Lumberyard Hands down the most affordable. But their web site kinda sucks, and they do have their own way of doing business. Once you get past that, it's all good. For example, I just stocked up on some jet black ebony fingerboards. Big enough to do a 5 string bass. 33 bux a board. Most people want 50 to 60 for this.

Update

Started profiling the neck, drilled the holes and counter sinks for the neck screw, and took the body thickness down to 1.45". At this point, it show absolutely no signs of neck dive
I weighs in at 11.6 lbs, hardware and all. I suspect that will come down a quarter of a lb or so once I get the rest of the neck profiled
