Westone Spectrum GT

Hi, newbie on the forum *waving all the way from the North West of Ireland*

I recently acquired a beautiful Westone Spectrum GT bass and it is perfect in every respect, except that the small problem with one of the pickups that I thought was due to dodgy wiring appears to be a bigger problem than I thought, i.e. the whole bridge pickup is done for. It's a "Magnabass IV" . Westone have alas gone out of business long since, and their website doesn't help.

I already posted on the Electronics & Pickups section of this board to see if anyone knows anything about these and how to get a replacement.

The one remaining pickup (Magnabass III) is a stonking great thing that will do for two, for the moment anyway but I'd still love to hear the bass it its full potential.

I have another Westone bass (different pickups though) and I love the sound they make. If anyone has any suggestions on how to get hold of a replacement pickup for the Spectrum I'd be happy to hear them. Westone used these Magnabass pickups on several of their models e.g. Spectrum, Pantera, Thunder.

Suggestions, commiserations etc. all welcome!

The Magnabass III on the bridge is a 2-spool humbucker, while the one at the neck is really a P-bass pup in a rectangular cover - check out the magnetic pattern with the tip of a screwdriver & see if I'm right. I have a Fretless Westone Thunder 3 Mk2 with those :

I've never seen those on Ebay, but perhaps you couldget a humbucker that fits inside the cover?

That's a lovely looking bass you have there. I'm not envious at all, not at all, really I'm not..

According to Westone's info website :

- the bridge pickup is the Magnabass IV and the neck pickup is the III. It'd be the bridge pickup I'm looking for. We've not found anything on Ebay either!
