Their whole purpose was to be real, no happy sappy. And they were that, thus becoming one of the most influential bands ever, creating atmosphere with the most basic of materials, but Curtis’ anguished lyrics on top took it to an entirely different level, especially after his demise. To go with the music, the Unknown Pleasures cover art is among the most iconic, Closer being equal in its melacholy and starkness. The total package.

That might be Hooky’s most famous JD riff, but his lines on “24 Hours” are even more ponderous and urgent, and they move me in an entirely different way. He didn’t create the chorused, droney bass sound so prevalent in late 70’s/early 80’s British rock, but he epitomized it.

As New Order plodded on, I lost interest, but those two JD albums took a lot of people(including myself)where they might not have wanted to go, but after it all, it was cathartic. To top it off, the biopic, Control, was as perfect as it could get, no romanticized cheesiness.

Cristian Castro's "No Podras" and "Amor". Cossette wanted to do both (in Spanish) and I'm stuck working out the details. FWIW: she can hit the high notes which gets the neighborhood dogs howling and sets-off car alarms. I am learning Spanish at the rate of one word-per-week.
