What 15" replacement speaker would you use?

Need a new speaker for a GK neo 115 cab. Want to see if I can voice it differently than the original sound. Something that will be less clanky.
What's everyone's thoughts on getting a solid, leaning to rock stand alone 15 replacement.

It depends on what you mean by clanky. You can turn the horn down, but if you mean less bass and more pronounced mids than the 1x12 or 2x12 GK neo cabs, that might have more to do with the size of the box and port tuning than anything.

His gk box is a good size, almost 5 cubic ft. Thats a good size for a number of different woofers. Might have to change the tuning though. Best bet is to run some through winisd to get some idea of what they are gona sound like.

Thanks that's a great place to start. I know here is a science behind it all, however I come from the days of you blow something, just buy a EV or JBL and pop it in and go. So just wanted to make a more edumacated purchase this round.

The Kappalite 3015 (not the "LF" version) is an extremely versatile woofer. It will work well in an unusually wide range of enclosure sizes and tunings... so much so that it's pretty much always what pops into my mind when someone wants a very good 8-ohm neo-motor 15.

The Faital 15PR400 is sort of its rival, and is the smoother of the two, and goes up higher. It is also quite versatile as far as enclosure sizes and tunings, and is available in 4 ohms. Imo the Kappalite sounds more like a bass guitar speaker, and has a little more "thump" even though that's not obvious from the parameters. The Faital actually sounds a little bit louder to me when comparing them side-by-side, again something that is not obvious from the parameters.

I have used both of these woofers in home audio speakers as well as bass guitar cabs. I lean towards the Kappalite for electric bass, and towards the smoother Faital for high-end home audio, but that's just a personal opinion.

Try different cabs, when you find one that you like buy it. No one else knows what you like or is able to accurately predict what you might prefer over the G-K. They could make an educated guess if they had access to a measured response chart for the G-K, but there aren't any.

Someone made an assumption about my age based on that soldering/chopsticks avatar, and I realized it was time for an update. The one I'm using now is from a high-end audio show in April of 2016, and as usual I'm talking with my hands without realizing it. The room had a Mardi Gras theme, because the speakers I was showing had a New Orleans-themed name, so I'm wearing Mardi Gras beads... though you can't really tell.

I have, I am still pretty, like you are, but I do have to put up with an all out racism against blue skin, cyclopsism, and a serious under-bite. I am 1/4 danish, which is obvious by my last name (Example being a very common Danske name), so I catch flack for that. It doesn't bother me though, thanks to the pirates and vikings around 1000 AD, you are also Danish.

Yeah when I was a kid, my mom told me that we were descended from Irish kings, so I thought we were something special... turns out pretty much everyone who's part Irish can make the same claim. It's good to be king.
