What a time to be alive....

Fantasy author Piers Anthony wrote a novel entitled "Split Infinity" which is,set in a future where robots have become so sophisticated that they can successfully pass for human.

At the beginni g of the story, the protagonist meets a young woman and they soon undertake a casual physical relationship. He soon realizes that she seems to be his ideal mate in every way but this only makes him suspicious. He suspects she might be a robot and he forces a test on her which proves she is indeed a robot.

He discovers that she has been built and programmed specifically to be his ideal lover and to stay with him and protect him from harm. He is unable to learn who sent the robot or why he might need protection but he agrees to allow her to fulfill her purpose and stay with him as his lover.

As the narrative progresses, he gets to know her better and realizes that she, and other robots like her, have become more sophisticated than their makers thought. They have become self aware and fully sentient. He falls in love with her.

Chaos ensues and they eventually get married. Or maybe his twin from an alternate reality marries her. Somebody marries her.

Will see if I can find it.

Be aware that it's the first book in the "Blue Adept" trilogy. The novel ends with major plot points unresolved and you'll need to read the next two books to reach a conclusion.

Then he wrote (i.e. churned out) a bunch more sequels to the first three., but they're garbage. Not worth your time.

Yeah, in my book (pun intended), he's the champion of the "great start then peter out to crap" style of writing. So much promise. So much disappointment.

Aaaaaaaaaa
???

Any woman past the age of 20 has been "used by dozens of others," as have men.

I don't understand the "alive" part of your statement.

Your first statement simply isn't true. To me, "dozens" means at least three dozen (or one would use the term "couple dozen"). You're saying women and men over 20 have had sex with 36 people????

"Alive" as compared to a robot..... which isn't alive. Simply put, alive equals human... with a pulse.
