What actor played a role so iconicly that it's unimaginable anyone else could replace them?

Not an actor but I think a role that does a lot to sets the mood and tone of the doc.

Even though Nance was part of Lynch's repertory group of actors, he was more than just the role of Henry; however, he was pitch perfect in that, he nailed it. I've known some people who were kind of like that in real life. He was also great in this

If you get the chance, definitely go see his son Ian, in his play "The Shark Is Broken". It's absolutely brilliant.
I don't disagree that you can easily find five DeNiro flicks that demonstrate such an enormous range that it would boggle the mind to recognize the same actor was in all five
...but I also contend that it is just as easy to find five DeNiro flicks where he delivers his performance with such an alarming lack of individuality or differentiation that you have to wonder if the director didn't ask him "could you just play this role exactly like you did in [name of other movie]?"
That's fare, thinking back on it, it's a tossup between Jones and Hoffman regarding best performance.
"Capote" with Hoffman playing the lead is foremost in my mind because I think Capote was a better movie than Infamous.
Well someone else could play Simon and I might not notice.
I've seen that movie soooooo many times. Lol. My buds and I used to watch it over and over back in the day when we first discovered hardcore.
