What Amp is Berry Using?

The Kustom cabs are part of the PA. He was generally seen using a combination of Sunn speakers(200s, 2000s, and Orion series with the onboard power amp removed)and Fender heads(Showman and the earliest PS 400).

…of which the basic design concept is still around, just different components and powering. Not long ago I saw some indie band use a pair(as some sort of ironic visual), powered by modern rack amps and mixer, and they didn’t sound that bad at all, but not everything was going through them, just vocals, keys, and a bit of drums.
I’ve seen some back-in-the-day pix of the Shure columns being used as monitors, it was either Elvis or J5.

Don't know what he was playing through, but it was enough to kill the band mate on his right.
The singer in my first band in high school owned a full Vocal Master rig. Even then I knew it was pretty harsh sounding. But at least we had a singer who schlepped the PA!Shure Vocal-Masters too, P.A.s have come a long way.
If I recall, the Fender PS400 had 3 four ohm taps at 135 watts each and had folded horn cabs purpose built for each load.
Fender issued a stand for the head I guess cause the vibration would have been too much to stack it on the cabs.
I can't imagine hauling all that dreck.
But I CAN imagine playing a stadium with it!

That is absolutely 100 percent true. Decades ago when I was in high school I went to a battle of the bands and one of the bands that was playing there had a back line of Kustom amps and their PA was three Shure Vocal Masters. One set of columns were on the stage facing the band as monitors and then the other four columns were on the corners of the stage. All I can remember is looking at that band and thinking my God these guys must really be good look at that. They have Kustom amps and Shure Vocal Masters. That would have been back probably in 1967 or 60 eight and I cannot even remember the name of the band. But I can remember how impressive those Kustom amps and Shure Vocal Master PA's were.
Also, diggin that Guild Starfire bass that Berry is playing. In fact I just ordered one from Sweetwater on sale for $799.00.

That’s a very early ABB picture, probably from Piedmont Park. What you see in the background is definitely not his amp. They would most likely would have had all their amps shoulder to shoulder behind the drummers. Monitoring was most likely only for vocals.
