What are great cheap basses?

I like to roll my own ... using Squier alder bodies and random necks ...

They can be seen on my website under the FatTone tab

One example well under $300.00

;) ... Stock I like some of the Squier and SX offerings

that looks awesome Kenny, as does your website :hyper:

If you can find one.. the Schecter Model T 5 is very good. Mine has crazy amounts of resonance and the neck is very comfortable. For a 34" scale the B is tight and responsive. I had a Lakland 55-01, great bass, but the 35" scale was a tad large for my little girl hands.

Epiphone Viola bass

I picked one up for $280 new from GC. I always liked the tones Chris Wood got out of his Hofner so I plugged in the Epiphone and was very pleasantly surprised. I brought it home and put some flatwounds on it and set it up and it's got amazingly warm tone, especially in the studio. I just wish is was a long scale, then it might bump my Fender MM Jazz out of the #1 spot.

Interesting that we both bought the same bass for the same reason. Here's my thread about my Viola with some really nice pictures....
