What are some good five stringers with only one pickup?

I have a Dean Edge 1 5-string bass. It has a single humbucking pickup in the sweet spot and sounds great with D'Adarrio Chromes. It weighs about 7.3 lbs and is very comfortable to play and is well within your budget. :D

I used to own a Stingray5 and loved it, but the weight was killer. They might be hard to find in your budget.

If you’re not opposed to getting a PJ and just turning off the J, there are some great basses in your budget. Yamaha BBs, Ibanez SR (whichever one has the PJ Nordstrand designed pickups is great), etc. Kiesel/Carvin PB5 could be found used in your budget, those are great too. Some will have just a P and some will have PJ.

Been playing a SBMM Ray 35 for about 7 years now. I love it. It's versatile and has a good clear sound. I'd defindefin recommend it, specially since your specifically are asking for a 1 element instrument. Am looking around for a Jazz Bass at the moment myself

There's an old, some call ancient, book still in publication. Therein, it describes an entity creating everything in the Universe. It is said that after everything was created, the entity took a break on the seventh day from work. I'll paraphrase; ...it look back and assessed it's creation and said it was good.
Rumor has it, that during the evening of the seventh day, Ernie Ball designed the Stingray 5H. He assessed his creation and called it good.
Ernie Ball gave the Stingray dominion over all things low end.
It's that "good."
