What are the smoothest flat strings made?

The smoothest flats I've used are La Bella 760FS's. Pyramid Gold's might be a fraction smoother but I don't care for the very short decay. Chromes are also very nice strings but overall....I prefer the La Bellas.
Very short decay? Hmm, maybe I WOULD like Pyramids. Just can't bring myself to pay $70 for a set of strings, so Chromes it is ;)

Once broken in, Pyramids have the shortest decay, thunkiest sound out there. They are also, ime, the smoothest feeling strings, with La Bellas a close second.

La Bella tapes are the smoothest tapes.

Carvin flats used to always be 760FL La Bella flats, red silk and all. But, the last few sets I have bought from there have quite clearly been GHS 45-105 Precision Flats. That pic appears to be them, too. Dark purple silk.

...Can anyone either identify super smooth flats from several years ago with gold nuts and no silk, or alternatively, suggest the smoothest flats available today?

Thank you.

If you polish your flats with a very fine Scotch Brite and then clean them thoroughly with alcohol, you'll have the smoothest flatwounds you've ever felt. Want 'em even smoother? Apply Johnson Stahl Fix, rub it off and clean it with alcohol. EB flats are relatively smooth In my opinion.

Yep. I lose again. :crying:

The strings arrived today, and they are quite clearly not the same as what Carvin sent me the last time. Not as smooth. It would appear that it is as you said, and they used to be LaBella's and are now GHS's.

I really should have just trusted you guys and gone with the LaBella's from the start. I have now blown over $100 buying the wrong strings.

Once again, I have lived up to my talkbass.com signature...

I will try the ScotchBrite trick. I've got a lot of strings to burn through here. :atoz: Might as well do what I can.
