What are you doing in the practice room now?

Do you have any sort of a disciplined practice? If so what are you working on?

Yes. I try to adhere to a rigid and strict practice routine. Usually I have two sessions a day -- at least, an hour in the morning (and I get up an hour early to ensure I get this time in most days) and at least and hour in the evening (if I'm not playing out).

The morning session is based around the keys. I used to work on a key a week, however, this year I decided to work on a key a month to enable me to do a deep dive. This month is dedicated to the key of E. I do all of the basic stuff like scales and arpeggios (multiple octave and fully extended), inversions, different fingerings. etc. But primarily focus on chord progressions within the key, technique, groove, articulations and so on.

The evening session is all song related. Working on new songs, working on the set list, creating new music, etc.

Not a lot. With no one to play with I have lost interest in practicing.

Thinking about dusting off the old rhythm guitar, tuned to open G, find a slide --- then see what comes of that. Got stacks of fake chord sheet music gathering dust.

Been restricted to the retirement home since March. Can not leave the property. Getting, scratch that, got cabin fever.

Worked half a day at my job. Then the fun begins.

I did more transcribing.
Repertoire, Repertoire, Repertoire.
Sour Girl, stuff from Bernard Edward's, Bach Brandenburg Concert #2, 1st movement (just starting).
Hip Hop memorization ( all keys)

An impromptu lecture on how to calculate 2 to the 65th power in a few seconds.
Fixed the toilet,
Sudoku ( worse than heroin)
Talk Bass (worse than Sudoku)

Now that gigs are on pause, I’m kinda floating in space. Which is actually kinda nice!

It’s been about half reading (Various Jazz, Jamerson, Duck Dunn, Beatles) and half YouTube play along (either full songs or “bass covers,” whatever tickles me or pops up that day.)

Working on this one ATM. Got a good bite on it, up til the key change

Eh, right now I’m breaking in a new set of GHS Precision Flats on my P Bass.

Although I haven’t listened to a lot of Led Zeppelin and Foghat lately, that’s what I’ve been working on. If I would have had a P Bass with flats back in the mid/late 70’s, that’s what I would have been playing; so this is a little trip in the time machine, so to speak.

@IamGroot, Sour Girl is another song I’ve been working on, too. GREAT Bass line. Robert DeLeo is among my favorite Bassists.

Me
iReal-medium swing in all 12 keys, 1 string at a time for note memorization
300 bass reading exercises-1 page a week
100 bass riffs-memorizing 1 riff a week

My routine since I have been in quarantine is at least 2 15 minute sessions a day
Transcribing music. Trying to expand my repertoire, but I find myself learning more Rush than anything else.
Working on reading music from Mel Bay, about 1 or 2 pages a week, and the SBL course. (I still kinda suck at it.)
Trying to learn chord tones and scales so I can improvise. (Via the Harmonic Layering course from SBL)
And then dinkin' around for the rest.
It sums up to about 2- 45 minute sessions a day.

Thanks for the question! I'm learning Pink Floyd's have a cigar. It's a long sheet of 6 pages with lots of variation, so just going through and lerning to read the notes has taken time. Today or tomorrow I will likely reach the end, then start playing with the slowed-down track. Another new song that I am practicing is Look-ka Py Py by The Meters - I love it!! Then some exercises on scales, time, finger dexterity and slapping technique, that's my program.
