I've read this book some 30 to 40 years ago, translated to Russian of course. Loved it then. Recently I've remembered it and decided to give a try to the original. So far so good. :)

Gonna start on Heinlein's "Stranger in a Strange Land" pretty "soon-ish". Also gearing up to finish my master's degree this summer, so that may also be a very optimistic appraisal of the situation. Regardless, excited to read it, as I know it's a classic and I've never read Heinlein before. I'm hoping that once my master's is completed in the next few months, I'll actually have time to read again. Heck, maybe even PlayBass instead of just TalkBass...

  • In the middle of The Book of Ebenezer Le Page by G.B. Edwards. Probably one of the most captivating reads for me in quite a while.
  • Just finished Knut Hamsun's The Growth of the Soil. Hard to know what to say about it. If anyone else has read it, I'd be interested in your thoughts. Very striking, but hard to decide how I feel about it.
  • Before that, I read Michael Pollan's How to Change Your Mind. A study on the medical potential of psychedelic drugs. Basically bringing back to the surface all of the research that was covered up during and soon after the '60s, as well as presenting a bit about the newest and most exciting new findings. He spends the middle portion of the book re-telling experiences he undertook as research for the book on psilocybin, LSD, and DMT.
  • I also recently read The Wake by Paul Kingsnorth, which was brilliant. It's written in a kind of 'imitation' of Old English (Anglo-Saxon), but understandable to the modern reader. The first 30 pages or so are an absolute slog while you try to understand it, but once you get in the mode, it's an amazing read. Of the books I've read with a less-than-likeable protagonist, this had the most detestable yet. So relevant to the times we live in today, too. I'll steer clear of that discussion though, as it may be too political for TB.

P.S. It seems to me that this author is now completely forgotten both in USA and his native England. Am I right or am I wrong?

Charts. Sometimes a quick Buy/Sell can be done at lunch.
The "On Ramp" is closed as the RSI, MACD, and Heiken Ashi all are screaming "DO NOT ENTER". Support was at a double-bottom about 38.0 this morning between 4AM and 6AM CST.

I’m on book three again. It’s my fourth time reading them. I’ve read the first four but not the fifth. I really hope they never make a movie or show about it. There’s been talk of a show but it can’t possibly work. I love these books so much.
Got the first 3 from a local coffee house, about 200 pages into the first one and I’m a fan. I hear it gets better as it goes too.

Hmmmm. I’m trying to think if it does. The story expands and escalates but it kinda maintains the same quality level throughout. You’re gonna wanna start book two immediately after you’re done. Same with three. Books four, five and eventually six are a separate trilogy with a different tone and focus. The first three are a masterpiece collectively. I didn’t love four.
