Reading Appointment in Samarra by John O'Hara (the man otherwise famous for getting beaten up by two midgets in a bar fight). Excellent, tightly written story in a Fitzgerald vein, although more outspoken and cynical. I've had it for many years, but only found it again the other day.

Yeah, Ive been reading It for a few weeks now. I think after this one I may cool it with the King books for a while. He's practically all Ive been reading since the start of the year. The book is great though. I also enjoyed The Stand, The Deadzone, and The Tommyknockers.

Same here. Done a lot of King reading this year too (The Stand, Misery, Cujo).

IT is turning out pretty well so far, tho granted, only about 100 pages in.

First of his novels I read was The Comedians, which I loved and re-read a couple of times. I also read The end of the affair and The third man and Brighton Rock.
I think if you enjoy Graham Greene's writing you'll enjoy this book. I'm really enjoying it myself. Particularly because the story takes place in Argentina, so the whole story rings truth to me, and I really know what he's talking about. It's giving me a whole new perspective about how much he must have researched prior to writing all his novels.
My wife didn't enjoy it though, she just doesn't like his writing... different strokes i guess.

I've read 3 of his other books and was very impressed - he is an amazing writer. I plan to read all of his books within this next year and I suppose Seeing Voices is a good choice to pick up next.
