What are your other obsessions?

I do mountain bike now, rarely road. But a little more possibly rough than most mid 50's guys do because I have crashed at least 3 times since COVID and have a lot of leg and arm scrapes. A lot of gnarly rides on this state. I am not going with my son now on his "easy rides". I did get a full carbon frame from a racer (they usually let go after 1 - 2 seasons and if they are sponsored they get the bikes for almost free) If you are willing and capable they (carbon full suspension bikes) can do things easier. I think since I started going away from clips in cycling and went back to just sticky soled shoes, you start to take more chances as well.

I did complete my AFF when I was living in San Diego. But nothing last year or even after Sept 2022. Used to ski also- free-heel XC but haven't done it for maybe a decade , well since 2018 for sure. But these are costly sports

I am finding it's just easier to do inexpensive hikes now. You just need a good shoe/boots , traction crampons if icy, a Garmin watch is helpful and since we are not as strong as we use to be, a walking stick. Bivouac tent and light sleeping bag if it going to be multi day. But for day hikes, Just boots, some clothes for the elements, water and some nutrition.

I am a hoarder of Hotwheels. I buy 20-30 every week, sometimes more, sometimes I buy vintage ones off ebay, or at thrift stores. I have way over 10,000 of them, every time I get a few plastic containers out to look through, I find Hotwheels that I didn’t even know I had. Our upstairs loft is stacked floor to ceiling, wall to wall with them, my garage is full of them, I’m building shelves in my guitar room to display a few hundred of my favorites.

Now THIS is an obsession.

Jeep guy here as well. Love exploring off-road and forest roads. Surprised we are the only ones…maybe bass playing and Jeep’s aren’t supposed to mix

Lol, I hope not! My guess is that we're the only two Jeep owners and bassists on TalkBass who have seen this thread so far. To be completely transparent I haven't been able to do a lot of legit off-roading in my Gladiator, partly because the longer wheelbase would make me very cautious on what lines to drive and partly because I haven't found a Jeep group in Middle Tennessee yet.

I forgot to include I love Italian-production Berettas. The US versions are excellent (they relocated their American production site to Gallatin, TN, about 30 miles away from Nashville), but somehow seeing 'Beretta - Gallatin TN' roll marked on the slide or barrel just somehow doesn't have the same meaning for me.

I find range time with a firearm I enjoy completely occupies my mind (like flying an airplane, firearms are also very unforgiving) and blocks out everything, a feeling I used to get on motorcycles.

I, too loveded the Hot Wheels until my mom found me running them over a jump and into my baby sister’s crib and beat my ass with a section of the track. I gave them all to my cousins after that.

I love kayaking more than anything.

Salud!

Boardgames, mainly. I played a lot of Third Reich, ASL, Civ, World in Flames, Empires in Arms, War and Peace, etc. in my times. Now, mostly GMT stuff and thru Vassal, because my pals live away.

What were your favorites?
Third Reich, 3rd edition; Bull Run; Africa Korps; Tac Air. I have Third Reich 4th edition but have not gotten the rules down yet.

But my gaming has mostly shifted to Eurogames like Terraforming Mars, Power Grid, Wingspan, and Scythe.

I also play a lot of turn-based strategic and rpg computer games like Civ 6, Age of Empires, Divinity Original Sin enhanced Ed., and I am going to start up Baldur’s Gate 3 very soon.
