What bass fits this description?

1. Has the rich low end tone and thump of a Precision but without the 'fartiness' and 'over-familiarity' of the Fender P-bass sound.

2. Has the 'zing' and 'tightness' of a Rickenbacker, as heard, for example, in 'Oh ho It's Magic' by Pilot.

3. Has something of the warmth and woody tone of a 60s hollow-body - but without sounding dark or 'evil'. Like, say, Wyman's 'happy' tone in 'Satisfaction'.

4. Has a 30-32" neck.

5. Has good looks.

6. Has a price tag in the $700-$1100 region (thus ruling out something like the Vox Sidewinder or Rickenbacker 4005).

I guess I'm looking for something like a cross between a Hofner and a Rick. I currently play a Vox Apollo which I love, but it's falling apart and I need to upgrade.

Any ideas? Is a custom job my only route?

I've got it.....how about a Fender Mustang reissue?
short scale, not exact P tone but some of it's qualities, Wyman actually used one.

I was going to say a mustang too. Maybe if you can get a custom mahogany body it'll come closer to what OP has in mind.

Was it a special series or something? I didn't know of any "standard" jazzes that were made in medium scale.

correct!
alot of MIJ precisions were medium scale hence why i was specific in designating it as MIJ..it wasnt just a preference bryan

also theres a MIM P Bass junior model that rocks out with at 28.5" scale, this only works because of its string through body...but the 32" mij Pbasses are much much much easier to find
