Regarding different basses that Ben played, here's the 1985 Live Aid vid. I can't quite make out what bass he is playing in this vid. There is a pretty good view of it at 1:35. Any ideas what it is?
Guild SB-602 Pilot Bass.
Or a specific (early?) incarnation thereof, with a large pickguard, non-reverse split-P front pickup, old diagonal-script Guild logo, and a notched lower headstock profile in correspondence with the diagonal in the script. TBer @Flashback Bass calls it
a "Pickguard" Pilot. A lot of people think they sound better as the have the neck pick-ups reversed from the later versions without the pickguard.
I have the exact same model, chrome bridge and all!
