What bass under 2k would u get for slap?

Can't go wrong with either a MIA Jazz or a Stingray. They are both GREAT slap basses. Personally if I wanted a slap bass I would gravitate to the Stingray but either one is great.

I'm kind of undecided myself. I actually think I can get pretty decent slap tone from my G&L L2000, but my vote goes to passive American Standard Jazz. I have a 2000 model that loves a good slapping


My '72 Jazz and I never sound good together for slap.

a Valenti jazz spec'd out just right could put you around that. It's practically impossible to get a better quality built instrument for the money in that price range IMO.

Get a good Stingray or Sterling, string it with either Swing Bass 66 stainless steels or stainless steel DR Lo-Riders (either in 40-100) and let the magic happen.

My Fender Jazz is a great slap bass. I prefer the '70s spaced alder/maple over ash/maple. Too "pingy" for me.

With that said, I personally think the Stingray sounds best for slap. Tells you how much I slap, though.

Do your self a favor an get a Sandberg California and you'll have the best of both worlds (JBass and MMStingray) with equal build quality (handmade in Germany, Delano PU's, zero fret, active/passive, ...) for a really fair price. (1300-1500€, guess about 1800$)

I played my Stingray for the last 12 Years and played some J's and P's also but truly I LOVE my Sandy! She's so versatile with a J-Style-PU and a MM-Style-PU (can be splited) and switchable active/passive electronics. The neck is slappers dream! The sound is awesome!

I dare to say that the quality is equal to the Stingray and even better than most of the Fenders I was able to try during the last years.

You'll get a lot of bass for your money!
