An example of a song with a similar sound to what i am looking for is "never again" by nickelback.Just a tip: I've noticed that any bass sounds a little heavier/growlier if you tune down, either by a half step on all strings or you can do Drop D and just use the low string for the extra rumble. You can try other tunings (like DGCF or even drop C), but there's a point where it just starts sounding floppy and lame.
Of course, you could also get that growlier sound on the low B string of just about any 5er, as long as it's not floppy either.
