what cabs for GK 800rb??

Hi all. I have a GK 800 rb that I just love the soundof. Its not rated very high power wise but I just can't deny the thing is damm loud and punchy.

Those of you familiar with tthe 800rb know that it has a unique power section. The amp puts out 200w at 8ohm or 300w at 4ohm out of the main power section and then there is a 100w amp (8ohm load only) on top

I currently have an Eden 2X10T and 1x15 (both 8ohm) and although the two are well matched, neither cab gives me enough low end booty (I play an SR5).

My plan is to keep the 2X10 cab for the 100w amp as it actually powers this cab quite well, and get a 4ohm cab for the bottom so that I can take advantage of the full 300watts.

So my choices are as follows:
1. Eden 1X15xlt 4ohm
2. Eden 2X12xlt 4ohm
3. Eden 4X10xlt 4ohm
4. Eden 2X15xlt 4ohm
5. Eden 6X10xlt 4ohm (or is it 6ohm?)
6. second Eden 1X15 8ohm cab to go with the one I have now.

I have no way to try these options out before choosing one so I am turning to by fellow Talkbass forum members for advice!

I am worried that the 300w power section may not be enough to power the 4x10xlt or 6X10xlt.

The 2X12 may not be loud enough

The XLT 1X15 may not be a huge difference that the one I have now

The 2X15 looks really cool but is a fairly big cab and no one seems to use this speaker configuration anymore.

The 1X15 option would be the cheapest option but the older style 1X15 cabs are no lonmger avilable new and are hard to find used

I'm also thinking that maybe the 800RB is a little too underpowered and outdated and maybe I should upgrade the amp first to get more power. The thing is, I love the sound of the 800RB.

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Get you a second 1-15 cab to keep your cabs small enough for ease of movement. I have used that rig pumping a 1-18 and 2-10's and also pushing a 1-15 and 4-10's. Running the 100 watt treble side through 4-10's is a little too much cabinet. It is nice to use less number of cabs on the smaller gigs and add what you need for the bigger gigs.

you may be right. problem is I am looking for more low end and adding a mismatched 15 cab to the one I have now may throw the balance off between them. There must be more of you 800RB players out there that can share your thoughts???

I played through an 800RB for almost 15 years. My first cab I had it with was a Peavey biamp cab with 2x10's and 1x18. I hated it. After that, I went with a homemade 2x12 then upgraded to an Eden D410T. I always liked the full range tone better than the biamp. My fried bought it and uses it with an Ampeg 2x10 or 4x10 depending on the gig. It sounds great with those cabs for sure. Not sure if this really helps, but it worked great for me for a long time. I recently switched to Bergantino cabs, and needed the extra juice of a 1001RB.

I ran a swr 610 with my 800rb and giged it for about a year. Worked nice, had good bottom end as well.

On a side note, to me its easier to move arround a 610 than a 210,410, 115. You dont have to lift the 610, just lean back and roll.

I do like the idea of the 6X10. What made you change rigs, inazone?
