What can damage a bass amp?

HAHAHA! How true. :D

Many years ago I worked at a music store that carried Peavey products. I distinctly remember a customer of mine bought a Peavey bass amp head (Firebass 700). His gf was furious that he bought that instead of a diamond ring. She attacked it with a sledgehammer and dumped it off in our parking lot. I went out and retrieved it, cleaned it up a little bit, plugged it in and turned it on. Having seen the damage, I wasn't expecting anything. To my (and my boss, the store owner, the amp owner, and eventually our Peavey rep's) surprise, it sounded just like the new one right next to it.

It was that exact moment that I became a Peavey fan for life. This thing was TrAsHeD, and it just kept kickin'. That's a serious amp. I'm proud to say that I've been rocking a Peavey T-Max head for thirteen, going on fourteen, years and other than replacing the tube a few times I've had zero problems and thirteen happy years with it. If it eventually fails, I'm going to give the new Peavey tube heads a serious look. :bassist:

That said, I wouldn't recommend sledgehammer makeovers to anyone.

Faulty Wiring
Dropping It (especially on the cord while it's still plugged in)
Fire
Being ******** (IE plugging a speaker out into the preamp in might do it)
Dishwasher/Washing Machine
Using it to prop your car up so you can change the tire/or oil.
A piledriver
Bullets
Baking it in the oven
Using it as a sled
Using it to practice skateboarding (although I seen a cab being used for that)

Funny stuff about Peavey because I tried to blow them up for fun. Cranked an 1810 (black widow loaded) with mark 4 head and sat bass against it and just let it wail away. Nothing, worked perfect. Played at Niagara Falls and bunch of out equipment was damaged from mist from the falls, mark 6 sucking in the mist, about ten shows like this, works like a dream still. Had my tko that I use in bi amp set up fall from at top an 8 10 cabinet, cut the cord in half when hit ground, still perfect. Godzilla once threw it at a crowd of unsuspecting Japanese tourists, after rinsing the squish off it was great.
