What can damage a bass amp?

Beer.

Don't put your beer can on top of your amp head. Someone will knock it over and get beer inside your amp.

UPS can damage your amp AND they'll charge you for it.

If you throw it out a window it will be damaged.

And this

Dropping a bass amp off your tailgate can damage it. So can falling down a flight of stairs with it.

Isnt that what UPS does on a regular basis?

Also, dropping it, overheating it, running it with too many cabs.
Also extreme sub-lows from some synths/effects could damage your cab, but I'm not sure if they'd do anything to the amp.

Bass amps are powerful things. I'd say the only amp more powerful that you'd usually find, would be a PA setup. But it'd be silly to use a bass amp as a PA. I've never seen anyone damage a guitar amp by playing bass through it either though. The only problem seemed to be not enough low end. I've used bass amps for guitar and keyboard before though. Surprisingly good for it.

As for bass amps.... using cabs that don't have the correct ohm load can damage an amp. Running a tube amp with no load can as well. Too much power or too much low end can destroy speakers. Dumping them in water can damage any electronic equipment. As can dumping them out the back of a van at 70 miles an hour.

The last one doesn't apply if the equipment in question is Peavey, though.
 
But seriously folks, running into a speaker impedance that is too low (for transistor amps) or too high (for tube amps) can cause damage.

It's unfortunately easy to do the latter, just crank the amp without a speaker attached and many if not most of them will suffer damage to the output transformer. The former case is less common, but if you run too many cabs in parallel and the amp doesn't have great protection circuitry, you can hose it. The high-frequency sections of G-K 800s were notorious for this. I hope they eventually fixed this, but they used to require a minimum of 8 ohms. All you had to do was use a 4-ohm cab and you could be in trouble.
