What can you tell me about Sigma Basses?

I looked and looked and the only thing I can find is that they were made by either Gibson or martin and that they were only made until 2007.

I saw a 4 string for 100 bucks and it piqued my interests.

Anyone?

The reason is, I have an offer of 80.00 on this. I can't find any info either. It looks like it needs work but I want to defret it.

Martin owned the Sigma brandname. They may still. They used the Sigma name on a budget line of acoustic guitars. The Japanese models were excellent often using wood supplied by Martin.
I'll bet that bass is from the 70's. I never saw a Sigma bass like that but it looks exactly like an Ampeg Big Stud bass I used to own. I bet it was made in the same factory. The M Sigma logo looks like the correct Martin one.
It's worth your $80.00.

Correct Sigma is made by Martin Guitars as their cheaper line. I am going to say late 70s until the early 90s. They made acoustics, a few weird looking strat copies, also electric and acoustic basses.

They are sort of hit or miss. Not really valuable, but sometimes you can find one that plays and sounds nice.

C.F. Martin's '70s Sigma electrics were made in Japan by Tokai, probably also sub-contracted to the Kasuga factory. Tokai had only recently entered guitar manufacturing with Tommy Moore's Hondo line, and the Sigmas tend to be a little rough-hewn, as witness the ill-fitting pickguard in the pic. That's not to say they can't sound good, but the build quality is not great by today's standards. The bass model is the SBB2-8, and, as said, is more or less the same as Ampeg's Big Stud (plywood body). - The Sigma acoustics were another matter altogether - really well-made instruments, and more representative of Martin's expertise.

looks just like the old ampeg little stud from the early 70's
