"What color pickguard?", butterscotch edition

Picked this sweet butterscotch and maple J on trade here at tb. Digging it so far but I am not in love with the 1 ply black.

What do you reckon would look good on here? I'm thinking 3 ply b/w/b to kind of give it that Old Smoothie vibe. Go full banana and throw a white one on? Commit the ultimate sin and combine maple and tort?

Personally, I like the single ply black look with butterscotch and maple. If it was rosewood, tort would work - but not with maple. All IMO, of course.

I have a similar bass and always like fiddling with pickguards and the like but I always come back to black (mine's three ply like you describe) for this one. Some form of white/parchment/ivory/pearl would look good too, and I've even contemplated one of the metallic gold ones.

Maybe black/white/black will be our compromise. I am just not digging the super glossy single

Cream pearl to match my P had crossed my mind

I would maybe not mind the single ply if it was more matte or maybe anodized like that anniversary precision

+1 on the black or tort. My Jazz is more of a burnt orange/maple, and I have a 2 ply tort on it. Looks mighty good to me.
Originally it had a white PG and I felt the same way you feel now.

White and maple just doesn't do it for me.
Your fret markers are black, I'd match that if I were you.

BTW I've been trying to convince myself to get a 3 ply tort, but the 2 ply is over 40 yrs old.
Would you change it if you were me?

I saw a Music Man Big Al bass a few years back... Brown metallic with gold pearloid. Really odd, but I loved it. Might work with BS.
