what comes first eq your rig or your bass

I run the bass wide open. Then tweek the amp. If I want more volume I just turn up my power amp. I do roll back the bass or treble boost just a bit if I need to on the bass. Nothing like hitting a knob on the bass and not being able to figure out what changed on stage. That's why I run them full up or close to it. After that it's pretty much set n forget on the amp too. I don't change mu tone much.

It's different for passive vs. active, for me.
Active instruments get set flat, EQ at amp.
Passive instruments get all the controls dimed, then EQ at amp.
I don't typically use the tone controls on the instrument. Pickup selection/blend, sometimes. Tone/EQ, very rarely.

I am also curious about something along with this one on EQing. Since I have never played live what do you do when you take a break. Do you turn off the power to you rig on just turn the volume down on your bass

Usually just turn the vol off on the bass. Turning off the rig usually causes pops etc. Through the PA that drives sound guys nuts. Tube amps take a bit to warm up also. Better to leave them on.

Bass wide open. EQ the amp (with input from the SOUND GUY). The only thing I touch all night (usually) is the pickup selector switch (Fender Roscoe Beck V).

I always used to roll treble off on my basses but my last recording session taught me that they sound better wide open with treble cut at the amp instead.

I run the bass full and adjust at the amp. I want the full signal from the bass at all times. If I need to turn up or want to make some part of a song stand out a little more I hit harder for that section of the song.

Set the bass such that it sounds its best through the PA with the channel EQ set flat. Then adjust the rig so it sounds its best.
