What definitive bass?

I have a budget of 2400$ and i would buy a bass definitive, for all my life, and for all music type...what bass?

i had thought to:
FENDER JAZZ AMERICAN VINTAGE '62
FENDER JAZZ AMERICAN VINTAGE '75
MUSICMAN STINGRAY H 4
SANDBERG
A WARWICK
OR OTHER...

I have to agree, but I'm using my Mustonco for everything from Country to Rock to Blues to Jazz to Swing to Reggae and everythig in between and it works great in those genres but then again it sounds an awful lot like my P basses and it can also sound like my Js (neck pickup only which is the only way I roll with a J).

Having played most of those, (although none extensively) I'd say the Sandberg has the most "WOW" factor when you plug them in, or even just look at them in some cases. (I love the classy, understated look of Sandbergs)

They also come with 2 pups. They have a mahogany neck, and a mahogany 'tone block' in the body, which gives it a alot more slam in the low mids.

i like in particular rock, metal, funk, reggae and pop..
so i was thinking about fender jazz or stingray

but warwick jazzman has a great sound...

With your budget, I'd consider getting two basses.

1) 2008-9 Fender Jazz 4-string
2) AV '62 Fender P-bass

I know you don't like P-basses, but believe me, in the studio and live, there is nothing a definitive as a P-bass for that certain sound. It transcends eras and styles. Get one of each.

what's 2008-09 fender jazz? why not an AV fender jazz?

I love P-bass but i would like a more modern sound, suitable to slap and funk..
i don't like the large interstring of P-BASS

i would like a more "solo" bass..i think that precision is a bass of accompaniment..

It is a MIA Fender Jazz Bass. These new ones from 2008-09, are excellent quality instruments. IMHO, they amongst the best Fender has made in many many years.

The AV Jazz is good, too--do you want stack pots? If so, go for it.

In any case, I think you need to branch out into some serious finger-style P-bass love, too. That is definitive bass, IMHO!!!

Get one of each!

First you said you want a bass for your whole life and all styles then you want a slapper with a good solo tone?

I still say a P Bass is your best bet. Keep the strings low and tone pot up and you got yourself a slap machine with some balls. HOWEVER, lots of people are very happy with their jazz basses for life so no shame in that if it's the tone you dig.

If it's the string spacing that's your issue you can always put a Jazz neck on a P Bass too.
