What delay do should I get?

The best digital delay, IMO, is the line 6 dl4. It's got a ton of options, including 15 different delays, three presets, tap tempo, and a looper. There are several on craigslist and ebay for around $150. I know its a little more than your budget but I think any pedal is expensive if you're only going to use it for one song. EHX also makes the deluxe memory boy. Analog with a tap tempo. Seen them used from $110 to $135. All that being said, it's up to you. Just my two cents.

You tap the pedal it at a certain tempo and the repeats play at that tempo.It allows you to control the time between each repeat (the speed) with your foot instead of reach for knobs.

I agree. It's a lot of bread. Thus why I've basically bought all this stuff on sale or used.

Knowing that I'd be using it sparingly, do you think the memory toy would be sufficient?

It seems to me just about any delay will do for that. He seems to just be making noise and I doubt anyone would know the difference between that and whatever you do. Besides, it's more about the show.

That said... You may want to look at the BOSS only because it had a wide pad and in those boots you may need it to be bigger to ensure you turn it on.

I have a BOSS CE-5 and it's okay. I looked up the Boss, and the effect doesn't have that crazy modulation that the others have. Still on the hunt...

I had one for awhile and wasn't a big fan-thought the repeats were way too dark and muddy, even on low feedback settings (1 or 2 repeats).

+1 for a DD-3, it's cheap and it works.

Just an update. We had our first appearance as a band at the "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer benefit. Peter Criss is a breast cancer survivor, so we showed up to lend support to the cause. We also took some kickass band photos.
