what did you think when fender started making instruments in mexico

I'm not sure about the twisted neck story. I haven't heard that one.
Actually in the beginning the bodies and necks were made at the Corona plant and shipped to Mexico for assembly. I can't remember the exact year, maybe 1998, late ninties anyway, when they started cutting the wood in Mexico.

as of today, all wood (necks and bodies) is cut in corona. And even if they were cut in mexico, they would use the sameq cnc cutters as corona. Plus there's no maple in mexico, so you would be getting that from whatever place corona gets it from

fun fact--- ive read through most of the thread. So just to give you guys a different perspective...

you know all those gm cars that everyone loves? guess what? engine, transmission, wiring, etc, are made in mexico and put together in the states.

Remember the 2013 malibu you just bought? yup... engine, transmission, harness, all mde in mexico.

Remember that new camaro ?? harnesses for those are made in mexico too!

Those zodiac inflatables that the marines use? how about some of the f22 parts?

most of the stuff "made" in the states is made elswhere and just put together here.

We got that from Spain 500 years ago ( in some strange incident involving war and small pox) along with guitar making, by the way... how old is Fender?

I think even the title of the thread brings up issues of both race and heritage... as if it was some sort of tragedy or sin that Fender decided ( 20 years ago! ) to build some of its products in Mexico, and as if Mexicans could not build quality guitars ( or any other product)...

Sorry but I do feel this thread is offensive and racist... Quality is quality all over the world, and it was not invented by the US (or by Mexico).
I didnt mean to offend anyone it just seems like some people are so patriotic that it would matter a lot to them like how imported Levis jeans are about $40 and u.s. ones (I think) are about $200, also beside being made in Mexico they were cheaper than u.s. ones so maybe people thought quality went down , if Americans fenders started costing $300 I would believe that they lowered quality . Sorry if anybody got butt hurt
