What do I do with this Charvel Bass?

Yeah, the distaste for confrontation thing can be a big factor for some of us (I wouldn't say "afraid", I just don't like it). Which is why I suggested having ebay handle that part. But I did get somewhat taken on the "haunted" bass when perhaps had I been more confrontational, I might've gotten my money back. I chalked that one up to my fault for not doing my homework sufficiently first, whether intentional or clueless, the seller listed a high starting price, sure, but didn't force me to make the bid. Unless, of course, when it arrives, I find it is not in the advertised condition. I'm a conflict avoider to a point, but after that point is exceeded, well... ...things can change very rapidly.

Yeah over 100, try 275. I didn't want to pay that much but I haven't seen one in this color before and I needed a red one to have red white and blue Charvels.

Get one where the neck and headstock at least are in good condition and paint it red.

yeah I think thats what Im going to have to do. Anyone got a 575 deluxe for sale? haha It will be a raw deal if I have to paint one though, I have a Charvel model 4 in the same metallic red finish. Gunna be hard to match the color.

Part it out and sell it. People are crazy enough to blow 20 bucks on ebay just for a neck plate without the gasket.

Rip off the bridge, knobs, switcher, everything salvagable.
That neck will yield a decent chunk of change too.

Theres a hole in the neck plate, and the fretboard is starting to separate, not to mention the fretboard is also covered in sharpie ink. The guitar is pretty gone. I did give it a thought though.

I bought a neck thru Charvel 3B from a guy on Craigslist for $20 with a little damage and it was in better shape than that. Unless you knew that was the condition, I'd GLADLY let Ebay handle this. If it was a fixer upper and I paid $100 shipped, I'd say it was ok.... But this isn't that.

The listing said and I quote, "Bass is in excellent condition and is red. Works and plays well.". I have since plugged it in, and it does produce noise when plugged in, but none of the electronics do anything. I have no volume or tone control. Just noise.

That being said - unfortunately parting out can be the best option. But based on the condition stated by the OP, it looks like that may not be the best at this point.

Really? That has not been my experience at all. I've won several disputes (ruled in my favor, got money back), can't recall one I lost.

Send it back and open a claim! Make sure you let them know how unhappy you are with the whole transaction. Hopefully ebay makes it right!

I conditioned the fretboard earlier, I usually use a cloth but I figured this was going to happen so I used a Kleenex. What a dope head.

Im not sure you could ever clean it out. Its like soaked into the wood. I don't even think you could sand it out. Imagine playing a gig and getting that neck all sweated up. Your hands would be just black and your strings... They would be shot really quickly.
