What do you do when it's all been done before?

Take a break. Or play another instrument. That's what I do, and when I come back to the instrument(s) it's like opening a floodgate of riffs....works every time.

I hit this point yesterday. Not necessarily that there's nothing left to do, but more like what's the point.

I have been playing for 35+ years. I am accomplished. I have nice gear. I have no gigs - by choice - soon can be with my kids while they're young. I play for the contemporary service at church.

I have nothing to practice as I can handle church fine. I mean, I can practice but why? I suppose just to get better but one can only play with IRealb for so long, you know.

But yea I do find it sorta funny when ppl go "it's all noise!!" Or "it's already been done".... Leaves me thinking "so what turn do you make from THAT?"

As this is in OT, I assume we're not talking about our bass-playing.. What then are we talking about? Further, it has all been done before, so whatever we do, that's what we do when it's *all been done before*
Personally, I drive on and don't concern myself w/any attempt to be original, as it is impossible.
