Hey guys...I picked up a Brice Defiant bloodburst 6 a few days ago for $250. I must say....I'm really impressed. I am typical of playing things first before buying them, so I never guessed on a Rondo music "cheapie". Figured these things gotta be boat paddles.
Wow...was I wrong!
Neck through Alder body.. and 35" scale.. I got it used from our local GC. They had a GIO Ibby 6er there too that I played after playing the Brice, and there was zero comparison. Same price (on sale) for the Ibby. The Brice kicked its @ss in every conceivable way. Tone, playability etc. Output from the passives is nice and being able to split the coils is way cool too. The Ibanez was a total, complete boat paddle in comparison. Now, I'm not trashing Ibanez, because this is their bargain basement 6, but I don't think Ibby sells anything anywhere near the price of this Brice for what they asked for this bass... new ($500). Exceptionally good looking too. Finish is a little on the dull side. I think it's actually designed that way. Like "matte". That is the way it appears on the page.

I had an LTD SM206 a while back and I never played it. One, because it weighed 14lbs. Not joking. Like a cinder block tied to your neck! Two, because I hated the electronics, and three, I just didn't like that bass! Dull, dull...dull. Did I mention it was dull???
I played this at practice the other night and really enjoyed it although I am used to the string spacing of a wide 5. I thought, worst comes to worst I replace the electronics, fill one neck tuner hole and turn it into a 5. It's only 1/8 wider than my Pro Tone. Pickups might make this challenging however....we shall see.
