what do you make of this fender?

I found this on cl awhile ago and was wondering if anyone can make out what it really is. I believe that the neck has a new decal, but in an earlier cl post, they said they believed it was a squire because it had no skunk stripe. I don't buy that. Maybe someone recognizes this bass. If it is mim the price is okay. But not for an affinity. I can't tell where the neck is from.

I'm sorry but nobody re-badges a Fender as a Fender. I would be very wary of it.

Pop the pickguard off of it, in my experience MIM's have white and black wiring and Squier's, specifically Affinity, tend to use blue and red.

Keep in mind though Fender Mexico doesn't have spec'd parts. They use whatever can be acquired for the best price at the time, only MIA are spec'd. That is what a Fender Gold Tech told me at least.

Looks like a Squier Affinity with a Fender sticker.

Notice the truss rod access, no plastic bushing, just wood.

But hey, it does have a drop-tuner, a hardshell case, AND a tort guard. I mean, it may be a very servicable instrument (for the right price of course).

Not sure. But I can tell you that not every Fender necessarily has a skunk stripe, and by the same token not every Squier doesn't. I have three Squiers, and they all have a stripe.

True. But I have seen fenders without skunk stripes so that is why I didn't think that was necessarily true.

Right. I thought maybe it was a replacement neck, but I haven't seen any without the plastic bushing. I didn't know about the wiring though.

it doesnt look squier either. Most squiers I have see have a serial number on the back of the headstock. Id offer 150-200 only because you have no idea where the neck came from.

That's what I thought as well. I just cant make sense of it so I will probably leave it alone. I will keep looking. I'm sure something decent will pop up eventually.
