What do you think is the worst bass ever?

Last year I bought a pedal from a guy. He was a poor part time kindengarden teacher that worked some nights as a musician in a local (Greek) popular music establishment. He was a nice guy and he showed me a gift that a friend of his has given to him . His face was full of pride but also dispair. It was a handmade bass . It was a jazz copy that was so badly botched that made your eyes and hands hurt. I am not only talking only about cosmetic details and sloppiness in painting and sanding ... the sound was totally dull and the fretboard/truss rod so badly setup that it needed more force than normal in order to persuade the strings to reach the fret. I am not sure if the electronics worked at all. (I think they didn't) ...

I told him that he was lucky to have such friends and we burst into laughter as he understoood that i was trying to find something good to say :-) Great guy awfull bass....

I have seen a lot of pretty bad basses over the years. The worst I spent any time playing was a Madeira (I think) SG bass copy. It belonged to a guitarist in my first band. We rehearsed at his place and he insisted I didn't have to bring my bass since he had one. I was Ok with that as I was biking over five miles to get there (Hey I was a freshman in high school). The thing had a banana neck with non-adjustable steel reinforcement, pups that had no treble and sharp fret ends. After the second time I brought my cheap MIJ Jazz copy.

Some vintage Fenders I played some years ago. I was traveling and stopped in a well known shop. I was in the market for a vintage Jazz Bass. They had racks of Vintage Jazz and Precision basses. 60s and 70s basses. I must have played 20 basses that day and the only one I would have possibly considered was a 66 P with a horrible brown refinish. It played and sounded great but I wanted a Jazz. Most of them were boat anchors with not great sound and feel. Really shattered the myth of vintage Fender for me. That's why I play Sadowskys and G&Ls

I couldn't think of one because I've had a billion of them and cost isn't exactly the deciding factor. So the "worst" are the ones that I bought and liked for some reason, then ditched because they went south after a year or two (I'm looking at you MIM fender! )

The worst bass that I ever owned was my first bass. It was a used Cort X bass. The neck was twisted, the intonation was off, the bass never stayed in tune, when I bought it, the E string tuning key was missing the tuning head and a friend of mine had to make a new tuning head out of wood. Whoever had owned that bass before me had treated it rough.

Now as far as new basses go, that is tough to say. You can buy an Ammoon bass off of Amazon for under $100.00 but other than the pickups being crappy, I've heard that those basses are actually pretty decent for being as cheap as they are and built in China.

I forget the brand name but I know Walmart and Best Buy sold guitars and basses for dirt cheap, online. I never purchased one but I heard that they were totally garbage.
