They're still labeled semi-hollow in the sales blurb. The earlier batch were chambered for weight,f-holes were just for show.Likely these are also chambered for weight.

You're right, I was mistaken. They're semi-hollow, not solid.
So the only difference would be no F hole. My lower cost argument still holds, tho. The F hole adds manufacturing time, which equals money. No F hole = lower mfg cost.
I've also seen/read that the bridge pickup is not the same as the PB-50. The picture I saw (in one of these "HB RB-414" threads, in past week) showed fatter pole pieces, and a slightly different shaped bobbin end.
They never had PB-50 pickups. Back when I owned my RB414, PB-50's had Wilkinson pickups with smaller pole pieces.
Then as now the RB414 had a much bigger unit.
So noone has an opinion on this bass, even if it is only to say "I don't like it"?
I guess I scared everyone away by mentioning counterfeit basses in the OP. Please note that this is not a counterfeit bass, it is an actual model released by Harley Benton.
I have just brought one as I can't afford a rickenbacker. Its looks nice. The sample on the site was very promising.
Necro Thread! They dont innately sound much like a Ric, but the visual resemblance has prompted people to try anyway:
"Sound like a Rickenbacker"? Some folks might think so, but... he had to use a boatload of electronic tricks to get there. Even then, it sure doesn't sound anything like either my 4001 or my 4003. I have a purpose-built Carvin LB-20 does sound pretty close to a Rick - without many $$'s worth of effects, either. But, it's built like a Rick, and cost as much as one, too. Still... the RB-414 seems like a decent little bass, and they do make in a lefty (a really big + for me). But, Thomann sells it for $215; I'm having a hard time believing I'd get much for that. It would be the 2nd cheapest bass I ever bought, and the one I have was bought just to learn how to work on stuff. At best, it's barely playable - but it does look nice. I can't help but think that this one would be more of the same...?
