What does (2) mean?

Some tabs have numbers in () what does it mean? For notation it calls it a ghost note. But aren't ghost notes and mutes the the same thing

It's a note where you play lightly. You don't see this notation often because most people memorize the rhythm of the song and don't care to write the intricate details.
