WHAT DOES AN ENVELOPE FILTER DO?!?!??!

Must have been really quick indeed. My suggestion is go to youtube, search for "envelope filter bass" and listen. Or if you insist on having the answer in words, I'll try to do it for you in exchange for you describing the colour red and the taste of water for me.

If you think that describing the function of a electronic device is the same as describing color red or the taste of water then you actually know less than any adult that I know.

If on the other hand you were just being a jerk, then B Major's response seemed very appropriate to me.

Simple. Red is an electromagnetic wave with a wavelength of 620 - 240 nanometers, and water is tasteless.

Now hold up your end of the bargain and tell us how an envelope filter works, in words.

You proved my point. Do you think you described the colour? Let's find a person who was blind all their life and just recovered their eyesight (subject important and heavy to me personally). You're the person teaching them about colours. Simple. Right? Just tell them your thing about waves and nanometers and see if they pick the colour correctly from the chart. Just showing them a red card would be as much better as linking Ed Friedland's demo of MXR pedal was a better answer to OP's answer than any wording of its function. Disagree? But hey, ok. An envelope filter changes an EQ curve of a signal in relation to its level.

I'm not saying it's the same, but then it's not about describing the function of any electronic device; it's about describing the auditory effect than an effect pedal has on sound of one's instrument in relation to their playing. I merely suggested that the OP might be right about his search having been insufficient if he hadn't found satisfactory answers; I also suggested that, since it's about an auditory effect, he might be better off looking for sound examples rather than worded descriptions. In response it was suggested that for talking like that people rightfully deserve to be beaten until they bleed. Appropriate, huh? Any more lessons about mental development of adults, good sir?

That's not really what you said. This may be a case where you want to go read what you wrote and say something like "Yeah, I was being a jerk, and then some sort of apology to the OP.

I'll start. I was being a real jerk when I responded but you pretty much deserved it so you don't get the apology.

I wasn't being a jerk (I wasn't judging whether you were, but I understand you really don't like to be disagreed with...). I also never insulted the OP (if you disagree, please quote the exact sentence), why should I apologise? And why do you think you get to tell me when I need to apologise anyone? Also, I don't need your apology, because as annoying as your manner can be, you didn't get me offended.
Once again, I suggested to the OP where to find a much better answer to his question than any of us can type here, even if searching for the samples would take more effort than asking the question and waiting for others to make that same effort.

This really isn't worth discussing any further. The OP was clearly offended, I was offended for him. Someone liked my reply so I think they took it the same way.

If you find it that hard to say you were wrong, then ok, you are clearly a peach.
