What dubstep/electronic music do you like to listen to?

For a good year or so I've been trying to get more involved with all sorts of electronic music, as I've been composing less on bass and more computer music. I've listened to a fair amount of breakcore (Venetian Snares, Blaerg, etc) and cybergrind (Maruosa, Xrin Arms, etc), and finally some dubstep (Skrillex).

I'm just sort of "metal"d out. Too much technicality, shredding, no big bass sounds or random surprizes, something I like about the computer music (like glitching, etc)

Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places, but I'm not really finding any really catchy new artists these days.

So I'm wondering, what dubstep/electronic music do you like to listen to?

yea, thats why I've mostly stuck with breakcore, I like how everything is grooves/machine gun blasts of certain samples, the constant shuffling of a variety of sounds that have been individually distorted, added delays that are too fast for the human ear to track, or panned/phased etc.

lol I once made my folks listen to some Blaerg, they were like "this is interesting, its just not music tho......it can't be" lol.

"scary monsters and nice sprites" really grew on me after the first brief listens, and then i had to get a full listen of the track. I like that whole modulating bass sound that throws in guitar riffage with the rap beat aspect.

Drum n' Bass is a nightmare for me........I don't know how anyone can put up with something so progressive

I love electronic music. Last year I bought a Macbook Pro, a laptop stand, a mini-mixer, and Ableton Live 8 Suite...then I topped it off with the McMillen Softstep midi foot controller (which is easily the best and most expressive guitarist-friendly midi controller ever made.) Now I'm gigging as a two piece - four piece electronic band called Red Super Giant (Invalid Link Removed.)

Here's the deal...I started off booking myself as "dubstep" but quickly got bored. The venues that booked me as "dubstep" saw my sax player and my upright electric bass (perfect for operating a midi foot controller and laptop because of its stand) and were perplexed. Many in the audience asked me if we were ever going to play any dubstep, even though we were...just with live instruments which sometimes we looped into the Ableton projects. On the other hand, when we played in more traditionally live music venues the audiences were equally perplexed. Long story short, we've since modified our sound to a sort of electronic/funk/fusion.

I will recommend Ableton Live 8 Suite though. It's fast and easy to use as a writing AND performance tool. Lately, we've been using Ableton as a multi-track digital recorder as well with excellent results through our Firestudio Project interface.

So.....what does each player play? I'm assuming you have your gear providing drum tracks and the foot pedal serves as a pattern selector?? or....

either way that's pretty intriguing. idk what I'm doing with my electronic music, I'm in a non-writing gap right now :scowl:, I usually like to try and set up my own stuff but I'm starting to discover the limitations of "one mind behind it all".

I listen to a TON of stuff, most of which is not dubstep. Nothing wrong with it though. The vast majority of what I've been digging recently has been house of some kind (french, electro, deep, etc) but I'm big fan of electropop, glitch and chillout.
