What D'yall think about Schecter Basses?

I purchased a new schecter stiletto elite bass in January. Loved the bass (I commented earlier in this thread about how great a bass it is). Now it has developed a loud “popping@ sound when the active electronic switch is on and I can’t trust the bass to gig with as it is intermittent. Anybody experienced this before. I had heard that the pre Amps were not high quality. SC

Have you wiggled the cord/plug at the output jack ? Possibly the contact(s) on the jack that supplies voltage to the active electronics.

Thanks I have checked and tightened the plug/cord connection jack but have not yet checked the contact to the electronics

They normally use a Stereo Jack so when you plug in the Mono plug the ring contact supplies the ground for the DC supply.

Ok that makes sense. The only thing is that it worked perfectly for about a month (using same cords/jacks) and then failed at a gig. Did all the typical things ( changed batteries, cords, checked amp (it did it on 2 different amps).

Were I in the market for a maple fingerboard bass, the Model T would be on my short list. I like the look and the way it played at gc.

The center "Ring" contact of the jack may just need bent a little to make better contact.

What do I think?
Pros:
- They're good value for the money
- nicely made
- They do make leftys - not as many options as I'd like, but they do make them
Cons:
- They're active. Only one spot in my herd for an active bass, and an Alembic Epic has made it's home there. One's more than enough..
- Only one empty spot left, and that's for a 34" scale true Hollow body. If Shecter made one, I could live with the 'active' stuff; but, they don't.
So, nice as they are, no Schecter's for me...

The dUg Bass is semi hollow and 35" scale. It's an amazing fun instrument, IMO.

A switch? My Schecter Stiletto Elite didn't have a switch, just four knobs. Is it another model? Anyway, I did have a problem with mine - the neck pickup wasn't working when I traded for it a few years ago so I got a pretty good deal on it as it was assumed it needed a replacement pickup. Anyway, I brought the bass home, yes, only the bridge pickup was the only one working so I proceeded to remove the neck pickup in order to replace it. Removed the pickup and lo and behold, the pickup wasn't even attached. The pickups use those plug in connector wiring and the pickup wasn't attached to anything the connector plug and wire was sitting on the bottom of the pickup cavity. Previous owner never touched anything or opened her up, so it must have not been plugged in firmly at the factory and had gotten loose through normal usage. I plugged it in, and voila - works great. In other words, check the electronics on you bass, check all the wires and the pickups- perhaps one of the pickup connectors is only partially attached causing the popping sound whenever the connector plugs would come into contact due to movement? Worth checking out everything on this bass. .

Thanks, good information. When I said “switch” I meant the volume know pulls up for passive and pushes down for active, creating a ”switch” in the knob

I love mine. Very nicely made without spending all the bills. People complain about the EMG's, but I like there P, J, and TB pickups.

That's nice, and I actually have looked hard at those. But, the kiss-of-death word here is "SEMI". I already have two long scale semi - hollow body basses, and don't need a third. The open spot is for a long scale, true hollow body bass - like, say, this Gretsch White Falcon...

I'm looking for a Diamond J to add to my other Schecters and I've been loving the original Active EMG P's & J's for over 25 years.

Have you taken it to a reputable guitar repair shop to see what they say? Maybe some new pickups might sort out issue. I've had no problems yet with my diamond series Schecter and I bought mine in 2016. The only minor issue I had with mine was the input socket tended to work lose after a few plays. My tutor sorted it and I've never had problems since.
