What effect I'm looking for?

Hello,

I play bass in a jazz trio, and I'm looking for a bass effect I'm going to use when soloing. I'm looking for:

- more sustain, my notes should sound like synth notes, with almost never ending sustain
- a richer sound to my notes, I would like my notes to sound more "wide", frequency wise
- a little bit more treble and less bass, so that I can also solo in lower parts of the instrument
- a bit drive, but not aggressive at all

Do you know how can I achieve that?

Any opinions are appreciated!

So far, I have a Boss OC-2, but this is for other stuff...

- a little bit more treble and less bass, so that I can also solo in lower parts of the instrument - EQ pedals, boss GEB7 would be a good start
- a bit drive, but not aggressive at all - any overdrive pedal with blend option

It's pretty rare that I just call out a pedal and say 'that's the one you want'. But the OP pretty much described the Philosophers Tone to a tee.

Compression designed to create huge amounts of sustain (which I have verified playing with it in a store), this also creates a fatness and fullness to the tone that seems to fit the OPs description.

A single treble knob to boost or cut the treble frequency. Seriously, one freaking treble knob and no other EQ.

A grit knob to add an overdrive signal to the compressed tone.

It's like they designed the damn thing to suit his singular application.

Yeah, it really sounds like it is what I need. Too bad it's hard to get in Europe and that it has a special power supply. But the demos from Billy Sheehan convinced me :) Any other options?

Run two compressors in serial. With each at conservative settings, you can get the clarity and hint of aggressive bite. One can use two relatively inexpensive comps to accomplish this.
