What effect is being used on this track?

Hey all,

Just wondering if you would recognise this effect, at around 1:02 the bass kicks in with a cool sound.

You can also hear it clearly also near 4:48.

Cool track...clearly I need more Mogwai in my life...
For what I can make it out at the beginning of where the bass kicks in, it sounds like a simple blend between a nice growly amp tone, and a fuzz at a extreme-ish setting...

That thing at 4:48 is cool though. I want to say it's a keyboard synth - but my inner GAS child is rooting for a bass effect

Yes, it sounds like a mixed in overdrive/Sansamp or something similar, subtle, not in the face.

Mogwai is one of the few bands me thinks that could be called post-rock.
