What good bass magazines are out there?

I used to be a loyal Bass Player reader, but it became increasingly difficult to find in Montreal and at one point seemed to disappear, but apparently it's still being printed? I know this sounds super old school (because everyone just goes online), but I really like the mag format, especially for bathroom reading so you don't have to worry about your phone falling into the toilet.
Any suggestions about good PRINT bass publications worth checking out?

I was and still want to be part of that minority and finally found the link to subscribe in Canada (holy crap that exchange hurt!), but really looking forward to receiving it again! Also, it's kind of like when you order something from ebay, it's nice going to the mailbox and waiting for something other than bills, sort of Christmassy!

I was getting Bass Guitar Magazine for a while. I got pretty tried of Bass Player, BGM was a nice change of pace. It is European so they have a lot of unknown (to me) artists but the content was much better than BP.

What?!?!?! I mean, yes...they are...actually, used to love reading interviews with Neil Peart as well as some of the classic heavy rock drummers. Like many musicians, when you get them talking about their instrument, it's a totally different character. At least you didn't say you liked singer magazines (which would actually be something along the lines of People or Tiger Beat (haha! Shows how old I am!)).

Yes, there are usually six reviews in each issue, and they give credit to the bass player and their contributions to the songs.

And @Al T. another reason you still are getting BP is that you realized the $14.00 you paid for your 13-issue subscription is cheaper than buying three single issues on a newsstand.

Exactly! Just some of the columnist like Ed Friedland are worth the little over a buck an issue it costs. But I still buy CDs, so what do I know.:)

I started losing interest after Jim Roberts left. Less to say, yet more to advertise. An issue occasionally lands in my mitts every so often now, and it's about a quarter the size it used to be, and seems to be about seventy percent advertising.

To be even more honest, I preferred Guitar Player as it was before BP, when they'd cover both guitar and bass, and they had columnists like Craig Anderton, Tommy Tedesco, "Teisco del Rey," and others. But I'm probably dating myself. :meh:

I’m down to Premier Guitar these days. Some, but not a lot of bass specific content. But what’s there is good. I just wish they'd get someone else to do the bass demo vids on their website. The guy they have is no Ed Freidland and doesn’t do a very good job IMO.

I'm with the Premier Guitar crowd after years of subscriptions to every music rag ever sold. I used to have them lying around a studio to keep people from getting too bored during vocal takes.
The worst by far are the New Bay Media publications which includes Bass Player, Guitar Player/World and everyone's fav Guitar Aficionado where rich people that once played in a garage band show off their million dollar collections.
I can accept mags that cater to doctors and ones that love every review but I draw the line at placing an ad next to the page where the same product is on test which is a common practice with New Bay and guts the objectivity of the review.

Too bad to hear that. Again, it's been a while, but I really used to enjoy reading BP. Great interviews, a lot of gear (that I, for the most part, couldn't afford) info, decent album reviews...well, I subscribed before I had all of this info, so I hope it's not too disappointing.
