after three years...
(in chronological order)
0. Learned how to arange songs with the PS1 game "Music"
1. Learned how to play bass (on an old auccustic guitar) along with CDs (mainly rap songs coz I used to be into that kinda stuff, untill I felt limeted)
2. Founded a band, played with them for about a year without writing one song. But leaned how to play intime with other musicians. And "how" a band "works"
3. Learned two finger tech. Looked around on the internet (musicians-in-your-city.com) for people who were looking for a bassist; found two bands but they were all older so I didn't write to them untill I got totaly sick of playing once a week with guys who wanted to cover metallica, but didn't even understand how to play "Smells like teen spirit" unless I showed them how to and all I could play were powerchords. So I gave the band a call and the following week I was there. I wasn't really ready for them coz they were REALLY good had a set of about an hour and the drummer had full basslines for every song. I totaly
sucked but I was like a bird being pushed out of the nest by it's mother to learn to fly, and within three months I was "good" anough to play a couple songs live. (woohoo! my first gig!) Our guitarists father is a producer and it was his birthday celebration so he had some of his bands play and we played three songs.
4. We kinda broke up for a month and I was playing bass all day (I was out of work at the time) I discovered a lot of bands whilst being with older musicians. Queens were my first big insperational band along with all the other stuff they did, At the drive in, and Primus. I spent all my time playing or sleeping and after watching a R.H.C.P DVD saw how the slapping worked (simply put, but I now knew how it was supposed to be done). Yeah! I can Impress people now with out them saing "bass is lame... four string easy .... bla bla bla...
5. Band regrouped minus old drummer and guitatist. plus new drummer whole new setlist
6. Bought a five string (Peavey Grindbass) of Ebay.
7. with my new bass learned as much Primus as I could.
8. Have a Primus coverband with my younger brother (playes drums)
To sum it all up (sorry if went on a bit)
I didn't have lessons (might start soon though)
Learned hamerons and stuff like that
Learned to play two finger tech
Joined "TalkBass"
speeded up my fingering
slowly built up strength in my pinkie (man has that made everyting easyer)
Learned how to slap (I'm not good or anything, but I can at least slap in time now)
Also lerned how to tap (a bit better)
I think to get any further I should start taking lessons.
