What is a DI

ll right joe, here is my conection chart I'm kinda obsessed with this DI thing now, so I'll try till I get the picture

bass --> Sansamp RBI input ---> Send --->EQ ---> compressor --->chorus ---> return ----> Sansamp RBI Output ---> (this is where we ara discussing about ) ---> DI ---> Mixing Desk

and the reason I'm using a Behringer Dı is that my guitarist own that, I don't have a DI, I usually just have an XLR output from my preamp without a DI, it works just fine though

You are using an RBI and adil is using a BDDI. That's important to keep straight.

O.k. Now, did you know that the XLR out on your RBI IS a DI? A DI is not necessarily a little box, it is an electronic circuit that performs a task. A lot of them are in little, self contained boxes. But a lot of them exist in preamps and heads.

Since going out the XLR out of the RBI IS a DI there's no need to add another DI (the Behringer) into the signal chain.

Don't get me wrong, you can use as many DI's as you want. I was just confused (obviously) with the gear you had and whay you were using it the way you were.

aha and now I get the answer well I was kinda confused about RBI, whether it contains a DI or not, because even in the manual nothing is said about the DI activity of the RBI....(for people who are wonderind, Sansamp RBI is the half-rack and upgraded version of BDDI)...so I thought that the XLR output sends also balanced signals but doesn't quite do the job the DI's do...Thats why I connected a DI to RBI...yeah I can see that there was no need for it...

the RBI is a single rack space unit, not a 1/2 rack space unit.

But it looks like you are on your way.

its width is a full rack space and depth is half...thats why I called it half rack it covers half the space by depth as Marshall JMP1 covers...am I wrong?

Yes.

Depth is never counted when referred to rackspace. But it is, of course, when referring to depth.

I have yet to see anything 1/4 rackspace (not that they don't exist somewhere) but 1/3 and 1/2 rackspace refer to the width within the space and 1 or 2 or more refer to the number of spaces taken up in a rack.

I never realized how confusing that was.

I need to know something about the RBI. How do you run it? I mean, as a head? or a pedal?
The thing is: would it work if I use it directly to a cab? I'd get all the power the cab has to offer? or I'm just talking b/s?
Sorry for the noob question but the thing is I don't understand much all the talking about heads, preamps, power amps, etc. English is not my main language LOL

The RBI is a rack mounted preamp and the BDDI is a pedal/preamp.

In between the RBI or the BDDI and the cabinet you would still need a power amp or a head for power.

The RBI and the BDDI make no power on their own.
