What is a good combo amp?

I was wondering what is a good all around combo amp in the 50 to 75 watt range? I am probably going to buy used due to limited funds. Going to be used mostly for practice but want something that can be used for small jams sessions with friends. What do y'all think?

I know it’s not the size amp you’re looking for but I have the Fender Rumble 350 and I’m not impressed! Too much midrange and adding bottom just makes it boomy/muddy and indistinct. It is one of the early black ones though. I don’t know if the newer ones are any better. I tried a smaller one when I bought this and it wasn’t as good which isn’t saying much. Definitely goes into the “oh why did I buy this?” Category - a purchase I should not have made.

I just spent an evening in a decent-sized music hall listening to Suavek Zanisienko backing The David Bromberg Quintet using a Mark Bass 2 X 10 combo amp. Scanning the literature shows they are expensive (!!!!!) but HOLY COW did this thing make his Fender Jazz Bass fill the house.

If you could go $100 more the Bugera BXD12 ($299 from Sweetwater) could be your solution. It tilts back and sounds very good. The build quality is great as well. I sent the 15inch version back due to XLR issues, but I did buy a demo model.

For ~100$ you can get an old Peavey TKO75/80. Lots of clean volume and nice EQ. If you like it crunchy you can get a Zoom MS60B with the rest of your budget. I mostly use one with a TNT150 live these days.

These are great amps...a bit too "trebly" for my taste, but LOUD. Probably a slappers friend especially for practice. You could easily do gigs with the built in DI as well.

Hey-- where's all the Made In USA Peavey love guys??? The 'silver fin' Made In USA Peavey combos are bulletproof and outstanding values for the cost. You got the important part right. Buy it used through your local GC. I bought a 'used' Ibanez bass for half the price it sells for new and you can't tell it's used, it's in such excellent condition. You can fall into a great deal at GC especially it's free if you have it sent to your local store. If you don't like it, after trying it, you just walk away. GC takes some bruises here now and then but they do offer some great deals sometimes.

Used Peavey TKO. Loud enough for venues and built like a tank. Should be right in your budget.

+1. For the budget and need that would be the most bang for buck, by quite a bit I think. Get a 100 watt 1x15 and you're all set.

I have lucked up and bought 2 "good condition" basses from guitar center for really good prices that could have passed for new. Roughly 1/2 for the new price. My local store carries very little used gear but they have good prices when they do have used.

With your budget your best bet will be an older Peavey combo. If you are lucky you might even find a combo with a BW in it. After that, the used Rumble amps i've seen locally have been pretty good deals, i got a nice Rumble 500 for $200.
