What is a good combo amp?

some excellent suggestions, and if you want to have more fun discovering the wonder of sounds from a mini monster full of useful bells and whistles instead of just a basic low end sound I'd suggest the Roland CUBE 60XL BASS combo. finding it used may prove difficult, I won't be selling mine!

Thanks for all of the suggestions, so far. Some good stuff suggested. I am gonna take my time on finding something. I am not in a bind to find something today, tomorrow or even next week. Don't want to pull the trigger on something and be sorry.

Just curious?

With all the amp info given to you by experienced TBrs, what is the obstacle keeping you from buying an amp today?

Why would you think you will be sorry purchasing any of the amps listed in your thread?

I am not trying to waste anyone's time. I am going to take my time and get the best amp I can at the best price I can. I take peoples advice seriously. I didn't say I was not going to buy an amp. I just said I am not in the position that I have to buy in a certain amount of time. If the right deal comes along tomorrow I will pull the trigger. It may be tomorrow or it may be six weeks from now.

I am wanting to get the best deal on the amp that fits my needs. When I find it I will buy it whether it is tomorrow or 6 weeks from now.

Heard a lot of good things on Acoustic amps. I am really thinking seriously on these, Peavey and Ampeg. Not familiar withe the cubes.

HAHA! how dare you waste people's valuable time on this forum when they could be talking about their vans or whatever else mundane and irrelevant...

meanwhile, I only know about Acoustic's mkII which sports a 15'' speaker so highs won't be prominent but otherwise is a fine bass amp with controls on the front and a minimal amount of features that provide some great sounds. you can't go wrong as long as it's not defective in some rare manner, but is bulky and heavy.
the CUBEs don't get much mention anywhere and are probably deemed pointless by major players but in lesser settings they can be mic'ed or use the XLR to handle gigs. and for recording / home / jam useage the 60XL and 120XL are a blast with their myriad features, but inexplicably they left the cool Power Squeezer off the 120 so I opted for the 60 and and am really glad I did. the 10'' speaker carries a lot of range and isn't bottom shy, plus they're built solid, I see them going for $300 used online often now so with luck you might do even better locally. I don't like the control panel placed on the top / rear for out use but in my couch potato arrangement it works well. I knew this amp had a lot of potential and I'm rather blown away that I'm still finding cool new settings.
Ampeg is pretty much a one trick pony and the small stuff is generally good at what they do, while Peavey is great for basic sounds and some units can be impressive, you can always put something in front of any amp to spice up things.
don't scrimp on the $$ unless a wild deal for something substantial pops up, no doubt you want this one amp to be viable for a couple of years at least and smaller amps might not cut it, but $300 should be your max for now.

Thanks for the info Bass V. There is just so much out there in this great big ol' world that it can be a little confusing. I am open to just about anything out there. I may be able to rake a little more $ together while I am looking. Cut out a few things that I buy that I don't need that will help my funds, like food. Who needs food when a better amp is needed. Lol.

it can seem that way, but it quickly boils down to a handful of good analog / digital choices from my pov as I'm not into tube costs and hassles. I did serious homework when searching for my amp needs which were just as you described and the competition tends to mostly revolve around your typical standard low-frills amps which all do the basic job. I found the Acoustic to be the better bargain in that category, with the 60XL doing all that plus a bunch more and tops in the modeling style amps. it's a ton of fun without weighing a ton, but something like a decent old Peavey TKO or similar for $50+ is a no brainer, just find a solid dependable amp and get to rockin'!
