Never really been into effects and what not but some of my songs call for it. I need an overdrive that won't take the tone out of my SVT. Also how do you all feel about compressors? Is it needed?

I struggle with this as well...I think it's an ongoing thing. I think my tone is good (BBE Opto Stomp and Boss TU-2 are my only "effects" if you can call them that) without any effects. Yet, I think it would be cool to have them for a few tunes. Yet, I think I'm fine the way I sound now. I think I am trying to do something that doesn't really work for me. Square peg round hole.
I have a GT-10B at home right now, but I think it'll go back. So much stuff. More to think about at the gigs - which patch, step her, wah there, pedal this, etc. I think I'm a bass to amp guy.

Can you not get an awesome overdrive out of your SVT? It should beat any pedal.
Compression: If you're already overdriving, mild compression probably won't make any difference. Some of us swear by compression, some don't. It's usually the clean-tone guys who swear by compression but I'm one of them and I don't use it.
Only your ears can judge (as has been said earlier).
Yeah but how many people have gigs where they can turn an SVT up past its 300w to get the overdrive? My guys would punch me in the throat!
I'm using a Sansamp VT for OD because it sounds natural in my old Ampeg stuff but doesn't have to be screaming loud. Tons of other pedals out there that work well, too.
